Girl ends her life following dispute with lover in Siliguri

Siliguri, 23rd June: A heart-wrenching incident unfolded this morning in Dabgram, under Ward No. 23 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, as a young woman took her own life by hanging herself amid a dispute with her lover. 


The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Tanushree Roy, also known as Diya, a resident of Dabgram. She was involved in a romantic relationship with a young man named Chandra Saha, hailing from Hatiadanga, adjacent to Ashighar. Initially, both families had accepted their relationship. However, in recent days, the couple had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute.

Tragedy struck this morning when the family members left for work, leaving Tanushree at home. Upon their return, they called out to her but received no response. Alarmed, they broke open the door and discovered her lifeless body hanging from a noose. The family immediately notified the local councillor and the Siliguri police.


Upon receiving the news, the police swiftly arrived at the scene and retrieved the girl’s body. It was then sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination. The grieving mother of the deceased expressed her confusion, stating that although there had been a quarrel between the young couple for the past two days, she cannot comprehend what led to this sudden tragedy. She demanded justice and punishment for the young man involved.
