Four family members killed after car plunges into Teesta River near Sevoke

Sevoke, 07th June: Four members of the same family, including a child, lost their lives after a car plunged into the Teesta River while travelling from Sikkim to Siliguri. The tragic accident took place on Friday afternoon in the Sevoke area.

According to reports, the vehicle was en route from Gangtok to Siliguri when it veered off the road and fell into the river, where it became submerged. The location of the vehicle was identified on Saturday evening, but rescue operations could not be conducted immediately due to poor visibility and darkness.

On Sunday morning, personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a rescue operation and successfully retrieved the vehicle from the river. The bodies of four occupants were recovered from inside the car.

The deceased have been identified as Sabia Neupane, Smarika Neupane, Tika Maya Dahal and Ditya Chhetri. A child was among the victims.

The bodies were later taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri for further procedures.

Sources said that the deceased included a nursing professor associated with a medical college in Sikkim and an engineer working with the Cultural Department.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
