Four arrested with brown sugar and firearms worth crores in Siliguri

Siliguri, 03rd March: In a major breakthrough, the SOG and NJP police arrested four people with brown sugar and firearms worth crores of rupees. The arrested have been identified as Mithu Sheikh of Malda, Ratan Biswas of Bagdogra, Deepak Chandra Barman of Jalpaiguri and Zahira Begum of Matigara.
On Wednesday afternoon, based on a tip-off, SOG and NJP police conducted a joint operation at Noukaghat More and arrested the said individuals. On being searched, the team recovered 01 kilogram of brown sugar, one firearm with 28 numbers of 0.32 mm live ammunition, two magazines, Rs 17,500 cash, four mobile phones and one weighing machine from their conscious possession. 
A specific case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act is being initiated at NJP Police Station. The accused persons are members of an organized drug cartel operating in Siliguri and various parts of North Bengal. The accused were produced in the Jalpaiguri court today. The police are likely to apply to keep the arrested on remand for 7 days for investigation.
