Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh passes away at 82

Former Darjeeling MP and former Union Minister Jaswant Singh, who had been ill for a long time, passed away on Sunday at the age of 82 years. 


Jaswant Singh is one of the few leaders who got the opportunity to become India’s Defense Minister, Finance Minister and Foreign Minister in the government headed by late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In 2009, Jaswant Singh contested from Darjeeling seat of West Bengal as a BJP candidate. He won from Darjeeling on the offer of local parties struggling for Gorkhaland. Singh was later expelled from the party for praising Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Jinnah in his book ‘Jinnah: Partition of India and Independence’.


On August 2014, Singh suffered a fall at his Delhi residence and had been ill since then. On Sunday morning, Singh came to the end of his very long journey.
