Forest department rescue two elephants from a truck in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri, 25th October: Acting on a tip-off, the forest department rescued two elephants from a truck on the national highway in the Jalpaiguri Teesta Checkpost area, on Sunday night.


According to Forest Department sources, a truck with Nagaland registered number was detained, following which, a search was carried out. Two elephants were rescued from the truck. The forest department primarily assumed that the elephants were being transported from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. Two people have been detained in the incident. Meanwhile, the elephants were taken to Gorumara the very night.


In this regard, the Additional Forest Officer of Jalpaiguri Forest Department Rahul Deb Mukherjee said that the veterinarian has checked the physical condition of the elephants. It is being investigated whether they will be allowed to be taken away.
