Siliguri, 26th August: The Siliguri police arrested five people along with 57 kgs of cannabis. The arrested accused have been identified as Gulam Haider, MD Shahid, Nafiz Khan, Jatin Barman and Fatima Firdaus. Four are reportedly residents of Bihar while Jatin Barman is a resident of Cooch Behar.
Based on a tip off, the police launched operations at the Jalpaimore traffic point and detained a passenger vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, 57 kgs of cannabis were found hidden inside a gunny bag carrying onions.
According to police sources, the cannabis was being transported to Bihar. When all the five were produced before the Siliguri court today, the court ordered five days police custody.
