Siliguri, 15th June: The police, on Monday, launched operations in the adjoining areas of NJP and imposed fines on five toto (e-rickshaw) drivers for breaching government protocols and carrying excess passengers.
As per the new COVID-19 guidelines, the State government has allowed e-rickshaws to ply on roads with only two passengers.
In view of this, the Siliguri traffic police have been regularly monitoring various areas of the city to ensure whether the rules are being followed or not. The police fined five toto drivers today after they were caught carrying more than two passengers in their vehicle. More such initiatives are likely to be taken in the future.
