Jalpaiguri, 06th August: Jalpaiguri Municipality has taken preventive measures against dengue by releasing Guppy fish in drains, sewers and water bodies across the city to destroy mosquito larvae.
According to municipality sources, 26 dengue cases were reported in the Jalpaiguri Municipality area last year, while three cases have been reported this year so far. The number of dengue cases in the district has also reached close to 100, following which the administration has taken precautionary measures.
As part of the initiative, around 46,000 Guppy fish were released into various water bodies across the city in the first phase on Thursday.
Along with this, the municipality is also conducting spraying drives across the city, carrying out door-to-door awareness campaigns and cleaning stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
The initiative aims to control mosquito larvae growth and reduce the risk of dengue cases in Jalpaiguri.
