Siliguri, 06th August: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has launched a new initiative to reduce road accidents and create awareness among people about traffic rules by installing awareness boards at petrol pumps across the city as part of Road Safety Week.
The initiative was inaugurated on Thursday at a petrol pump near Air View More by Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza. He formally launched the campaign by unveiling a road safety awareness board.
Police Commissioner Syed Waqar Raza said that reducing road accidents requires not only enforcement of laws but also increasing awareness among people about traffic rules.
He stated that petrol pumps are locations where a large number of vehicle drivers visit every day, and installing awareness boards with road safety messages at such places will help spread awareness among more people.
He further said that along with schools, public places and major crossings, petrol pumps have also been included in the campaign to reduce road accidents.
The programme was attended by DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, ADCP Purnima Sherpa, ACP Subir Dutta, ACP Tridib Sarkar, ACP Chandan Das and personnel from Panitanki Traffic Guard.
