Father-daughter held by Matigara police for illegal drug trade

Siliguri, 05th November: Based on a tip-off, the Matigara police, on Thursday morning, launched operations at the Shivmandir area and arrested a father-daughter duo with 900 grams of brown sugar which was hidden inside a bag.


The market value of the recovered brown sugar has been estimated to be around 90 lakh to 1 crore rupees. The arrested individuals, identified as Mahesh Mali and Aloka Begum, are residents of the Biswas colony area under Matigara police station.

Reportedly, Aloka Begum has earlier been held for smuggling cannabis. Allegedly, She and her father used to carry brown sugar from Malda and Murshidabad and deliver it to Siliguri and other areas.


During a press conference at Matigara police station today, ACP Chinmoy Mittal stated that a huge quantity of brown sugar has been recovered in the past few months and several people have also been arrested. Reportedly, in the last 3-4 months, various police stations have recovered around 9-10 kgs of brown sugar in the Siliguri Police Commissionerate area.
