Siliguri, 23rd March: Police arrested Md S.K. Gosul Ali, a resident of Tangra-Kolkata, for fraudulently working at Siliguri’s Mukherjee Hospital as a surgeon.
Reportedly, the matter came to light as the mentioned hospital’s Director, Dr Mainak Mukherjee lodged a complaint against Gosul Ali on March 21 stating that he came to know from a “reliable source” that the man did not possess an M.B.B.S. degree. Upon asking him to submit his documents, the supposed doctor Md S.K. Gosul Ali “failed to provide any degree certificate or registration number.” Furthermore, on March 02 he was present in the hospital’s operation theatre, apparently without the knowledge of the hospital authority, and also performed the surgery.
Acting promptly after the complaint was registered, the Siliguri Police Station personnel nabbed Md S.K. Gosul Ali from the OT while he was again performing surgery at the aforementioned hospital on March 21.
After intense interrogation, the police learned that Md S.K. Gosul Ali had collected “fake M.B.B.S degree certificate as well as other fake degree certificates from Patna, Bihar and Bangalore.” The arrested further revealed that he runs many chambers to tend patients in various districts.
As per the information, Md S.K. Gosul Ali has agreed to provide information to the police regarding the “gang of duplicate certificate manufacturing team from Bangalore and Patna, as well as to show his chambers in different districts.”
Meanwhile, Dr Mainak Mukherjee said, “We have lodged a complaint at the police station. We have no connection with Gosul Ali. He came to the hospital with another doctor.”
Government lawyer Sudip Roy Basunia maintained that the accused had acquired the fake certificates from Bihar. He has been taken into police custody. Reportedly, the investigating team will also be visiting Gosul Ali’s house in Kolkata and will be checking all the information and documents.
