Fake colonel arrested by Army Intelligence Bureau from Pashupati Bazar, man used to dupe people in lieu of recruiting in Indian Army

Siliguri, 31st December: The Army Intelligence Bureau arrested a vicious criminal who posed as an army colonel and cheated people in lieu of recruiting in the Indian Army. With the assistance of Sukhia Pokhri Police Station under Darjeeling District Police, the fake colonel Man Bahadur Gurung was arrested from Pashupati Bazar area of Nepal. Following this, the accused has been taken on police remand for 14 days after presenting him in the Darjeeling district court.


According to the Army Intelligence Bureau, Gurung is originally a resident of Nepal. However, he was living in a rented house in Ward No. 46, Satyajit Nagar area of Siliguri for some time. He used to roam around Siliguri wearing Indian Army uniform and introducing himself as an army colonel to the people. 

With the help of the army uniform, the man used to win the trust of unemployed youths keen on joining the army and then used to take money from them under the pretext of providing them the job. Following this, Gurung used to run off to Nepal. When the matter came before the Army Intelligence Bureau team, an investigation was promptly launched and the fake colonel was arrested.


It is to be noted, several unemployed youth are falling prey to fraud in hopes of getting a job. Among the cases, most of the youths were duped under the pretext of getting jobs in the Indian Army and MES. This year, more than 10 Army Intelligence Bureau teams have arrested numerous such criminals who cheated people claiming to provide jobs in the Indian Army.
