Siliguri, 02nd July: Ashighar Outpost of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police busted a fake cement manufacturing unit operating from a rented warehouse in the Majhabari area of Ashighar and arrested four persons in connection with the case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rajesh Roy, Rupak Mahanto, Chiranjit Barman and Gobindo Mahanto, all residents of Raiganj.
According to police sources, the accused had allegedly been operating the illegal unit for a considerable period by mixing white powder with branded cement to manufacture counterfeit products.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid on Wednesday night and reportedly caught the accused red-handed while preparing fake cement.
During the operation, police seized 242 bags of branded cement and 118 bags of white powder from the warehouse.
The warehouse has been sealed, and all four accused have been arrested. Preliminary investigation suggests that the arrested individuals were working as employees in the illegal operation.
The accused were produced before a court in Jalpaiguri on Thursday, where police sought their custody for further investigation. Police have launched a detailed probe into the matter.
