Siliguri, 16th February: Veteran CPIM leader Ashok Bhattacharya faced defeat in the 2022 Siliguri Municipal Corporation elections from the same ward in which he had won earlier and became the Mayor of Siliguri.
It is to recall that Ashok Bhattacharya also secured the third position in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. He lost to TMC candidate Alam Khan this SMC election and secured the second position in Ward no -06.
Meanwhile, after the defeat, he said “I did not anticipate such a result. Everyone said we will win. The reason for the party’s defeat will be reviewed. However, this time there were many young candidates. Last time we had won 23 seats. This time it has been reduced to 4 seats.”
