Elephant tusks recovered in Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 13th February: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a person along with elephant tusks from the Gandhidham Express Train at the NJP railway station, on Wednesday evening. The arrested individual has been identified as Azim Ahmed, a resident of Kokrajhar, Assam.


According to information received from the DRI, the accused was transporting the elephant tusks from Guwahati to Varanasi via the Gandhidham Express Train, on Wednesday. Based on a tip-off, the team of DRI launched a campaign at the NJP railway station and arrested the individual. 7 pieces of elephant tusks, worth Rs 1,29,00,500, have been recovered from Ahmed’s possession. Upon presenting the accused arrested in the Siliguri court, today, the Judge sentenced Ahmed to 14 days of judicial custody. The DRI is further investigating the entire matter.
