Naxalbari, 31st October: A farmer was trampled to death by an elephant in Mangalsingh village of Hatighisa in Naxalbari. The incident created a stir in the area. The deceased has been identified as Nakul Sinha.
It has been learned that the incident happened when a herd of elephants entered the area on Saturday night. Meanwhile, Naxalbari Forest Department workers reached the spot and chased the elephant herd to the forest. After recovering the body, it was sent to Naxalbari Hospital.
In this regard, Madhav Sarkar, former president of Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti, said that elephants destroy paddy almost every day. If this continues, the farmers have no choice but to commit suicide or leave their profession.
