Siliguri, 29th May: Multiple electric furnaces at the Kiran Chandra crematorium in Siliguri have reportedly become non-functional, leading to severe inconvenience for the public.
According to crematorium authorities, out of the three electric furnaces, two are usually kept operational while one remains on standby. However, at present all three furnaces are reportedly out of order, forcing people to wait for hours for cremation services.
Following the issue, Opposition leader of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Amit Jain visited the site to assess the situation. He stated that the problem has been ongoing for the past two to three days and claimed that even after attempts to restore service, the furnaces continued to malfunction.
He further said that people are being forced to wait with bodies for extended periods, describing the situation as unfortunate and expressing concern over the lack of administrative urgency.
The incident has also triggered public anger, with local residents demanding immediate repair of the furnaces and restoration of normal cremation services at the earliest.
