Siliguri, 09th July: A sensation spread in the Chayan Para area near Ghogomali Fruit Market in Siliguri after the body of an elderly woman was recovered from her residence. The deceased has been identified as Biva Biswas.
According to local sources, the woman’s husband had passed away many years ago. Since then, she had been living with her daughter, who is reportedly suffering from mental health issues.
On Thursday morning, after receiving no response despite repeatedly calling out to her mother for a long time, the daughter alerted neighbours. Local residents then entered the house and found the elderly woman lying dead. The body had already begun to decompose.
As there were no other family members to take responsibility, members of the Muktodhara Foundation reached the spot after being informed, recovered the body, and made arrangements for the woman’s last rites.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area.
