Siliguri, 18th March: A drug smuggling attempt from Malda’s Kaliachak to Siliguri was thwarted with the arrest of a peddler in possession of brown sugar worth ₹10 lakh. The arrested individual has been identified as Chaman Ali (34), a resident of Budhugach under the Islampur police station jurisdiction.
According to police sources, Chaman Ali was waiting on the service road near Bagdogra Airport to hand over the consignment when the Bagdogra police station, along with the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, conducted a raid. During the search, five packets of brown sugar, concealed inside his clothing, were recovered from a plastic bag.
A total of 507 grams of brown sugar was seized, and the police also confiscated a mobile phone from the accused. Following his arrest, Chaman Ali was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. The Bagdogra police station has launched a thorough investigation into the case.
