‘Drink and Drive’ campaign to commence again to reduce road accidents: Gaurav Sharma

Siliguri, 01st December: Amidst the increasing reports of road accidents, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police is set to restart the ‘Drink and Drive’ campaign against drunken drivers.


Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma, while attending a programme at Ghogomali organized by the NJP Traffic Guard to bring awareness among the people about Safe Drive Save Life, made the announcement regarding the said initiative. During this, the students also took out an awareness rally. Furthermore, the Commissioner distributed helmets among many motorists to bring awareness about the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and following the traffic rules. Also, he handed over blankets to needy people.


In addition to this, Commissioner Gaurav Sharma inaugurated the CCTV camera installed in the Jaleshwari area. After the painful accident in Jaleshwari, on the appeal of the police administration, the Jaleshwari Bazar Business Committee had removed all roadside shops. In this regard, the Commissioner acknowledged the committee members and the people for supporting the decision. He also inaugurated the traffic point in VIP More.

Addressing the media, the Siliguri Police Commissioner said that the ‘Drink and Drive’ campaign will once again be conducted during the night. While most of the accidents happen under the influence of alcohol, the police will soon be meeting all the bar owners.

“It is my duty to take care of the safety of the people,” Gaurav Sharma stated. He further added that the traffic points will be opened in many more areas including Canal More, Salugara.
