DRI arrest one with 6 pieces of gold biscuits

Siliguri, 15 January: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team arrested a gold smuggler identified as Deepankar Talukdar a businessman by profession and a resident of Ward No. 36 of Dabgram, with 996 gram gold.


According to the DRI sources, the team campaigned on the Saraighat Express train at NJP railway station on Thursday night acting on a tip-off.


Talukdar was then taken into custody from S-2 basis on suspicion. Upon searching, 6 pieces of gold biscuits weighing 996 grams were recovered from his shoe after which he was immediately arrested. Each gold biscuits weigh 166 grams. The estimated value of the recovered gold is said to be Rs 48,89,864. The accused was presented in court today. After the hearing, Deepankar Talukdar was permitted bail.
