Siliguri, 18th May: A man, identified as Piyarul Mohammad has been arrested under the charge of choking his wife to death in the Purba Dhantala area. The deceased has been identified as Ayesha Begum.
As per the information, Piyarul and Ayesha got married 6 months ago. The deceased’s family members alleged that Piyarul used to constantly harass her for dowry since the marriage. They further alleged that a feud broke between them on Friday night, during which the infuriated Piyarul physically attacked Ayesha and then choked her to death in the course. Following this Ayesha was immediately rushed to the North Bengal Medical College-Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s family members lodged a complaint against the accused at the police station. Based on which, the NJP police launched an operation in the Purba Dhantala area on Sunday and got hold of the accused successfully.
The arrested accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday.
