Disaster Management and Civil Defence Fighter Association joins protest in Siliguri in support of several demands

Siliguri, 07th February: The West Bengal Disaster Management and Civil Defence Fighter Association has joined the protest for several demands including payment of allowances and many more. It is to be noted that, disaster management personnel are required in the event of a natural calamity or any major threat. They get nominal remuneration on the basis of the work. Trained civil defence personnel have to lead their lives like unemployed during other times. Thus, they demand to be given a lump sum allowance not just during the working period.

Stating their demand, they submitted a memorandum regarding several departments including State Secretariat, Nabanna but to no avail. Thus, on Tuesday, West Bengal Disaster Management and Civil Defence Fighter Association joined the movement in support of several demands. Today the members of the organization left for Uttar Kanya through a protest rally from Jalpai More. However, a huge police force stopped the rally at Teenbatti More. Later they protested by sitting on the road. After this, a delegation of five people went to Uttar Kanya and handed over a memorandum to the officials.

In this regard, the organization’s state secretary Prasenjit Basak said that the way permanent monthly allowance is given to civil volunteers, similarly the government should give allowance to civil defence employees. He further warned of massive agitation if their demands are not met.
