Declared dead on government record, 68-year-old in Rajganj denied old-age pension for a year

Rajganj, 06th December: 68-year-old Chaitu Muhammad, a resident of the Amaidighi region of Fulbari-2 Gram Panchayat under Rajganj block, was taken off the old-age allowance list after being declared ‘dead’ in the government records.


According to reports, Chaitu Mohammad, proprietor of a tea establishment, had his old age allowance suspended for nearly a year. Upon arriving at the BDO office, Chaitu obtained the information that his name had been taken off the list of recipients of the old age stipend.

In relation to this incident, Chaitu Muhammad stated that he has been receiving this allowance for several years. However, his bank account abruptly stopped receiving the allowance approximately a year ago. In an attempt to resolve the issue, he has been approaching the bank and zonal office, but to no avail. Subsequently, he arrived at the block administration office when he found out that his name had been crossed off the list.


According to Rajganj BDO Prashant Barman, he met the elderly resident at his home upon learning of this and took his necessary documents for submission. He remarked that a detailed investigation will be conducted against the official responsible for the mistake and Chaitu Muhammad will be receiving his allowance.
