DD team bust sex racket at Siliguri’s Hotel Empees, 8 arrested

Siliguri, 03 July: A team of Detective Department (DD) busted a prostitution racket at The Hotel Empees in the wee hours of Saturday. A total of 8 people have been arrested by the DD. While 6 girls were rescued from the hotel.


The arrested have been identified as the hotel’s owner, Mani Pal, a resident of Bidhan Road; Suhan Roy of Jorepokhri in Mayanaguri under Jalpaiguri district; Sajal Chakraborty of Saheb Bagan, Station Road, Bhadreshwar, Hooghly district; Sudip Chakraborty of Bishpara, Raghunathpur, PO. Naya Sarai, PS. Mogra under Hooghly district; Prasanta Sarkar (42) of Government Colony, Station Road, Bhadreshwar, Hooghly; Shamik Chatterjee (40) of Chandan Nagar (near Post Office) PO. and PS. Chandan Nagar, Hooghly; Anil Singh (28) of Bahadurganj (Dhaugaon), PO. and PS. Bahadurganj, Dist. Kishanganj (Bihar); and Gajanan Kolapur (46) of Hubli, PO. Hubli, PS. Ghantikar in Dharawad district of Karnataka.

In addition to this, out of the 06 girls recovered, 02 are from South 24 Parganas, 01 from Bihar, 01 from Cooch Behar, 01 from North Dinajpur and 01 from North 24 Parganas. The 8 accused arrested today have been presented in the court after registering a case under Immoral Trafficking.


According to DD ACP Rajen Chettri, they received a tip on Friday night concerning the sex racket operating at The Hotel Empees located near Bidhan Market. The young women were reportedly brought to Siliguri from other states and districts and were lured into prostitution with money. A team of DD raided the said hotel and rescued 06 girls from the hotel and arrested 08 people including the hotel owner and staff.
