Darjeeling, 07th September: To push the demand for transforming the Darjeeling Municipality into a full-fledged municipal corporation, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), on Sunday formed an apolitical body Darjeeling Municipality Corporation Demand Committee, on Sunday.
With over 100 members, the DMCDC will comprise of representatives from different chambers of commerce, business establishments, non-government organisations, legal cells and individuals from the education and transport sectors from the hills.
Gorkha Janmukti Morcha President Binoy Tamang, on social media, congratulated and wished all the members of the committee best of luck and encouraged them to give their best to be successful.
“We are very positive this demand is possible and the state Government would help in making it possible. I request all our people of the Hills to come together and support us to fulfil the demand of upgrading to Corporation of 170 years old,” he further stated.
Tamang in his agendas forms 2019 election manifesto had intended to work towards the upgrading of Darjeeling Municipality to Darjeeling Municipality Corporation.
