Siliguri, 29th May: Acting on strict directives to curb illegal sand mining and riverbed sand smuggling in Siliguri, Matigara Police carried out an operation and achieved a major breakthrough.
According to police sources, a special raid was conducted late Friday night in the Patiram Jote area near Chowrangi More. During the operation, police intercepted two sand-laden trucks for inspection.
When drivers were asked to produce valid royalty and transport documents, they failed to submit any paperwork. Following this, both drivers were arrested on the spot and the vehicles were seized.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arjun Paswan (28) and Subal Das (26).
Police have registered cases under relevant sections and produced the accused before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the illegally transported sand and identify others involved in the network.
