Siliguri, 28th April: In a significant operation, SOG team along with plainclothes officers of NJP Police Station arrested a couple and seized 300 grams of brown sugar near Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Jahangir (32) and his wife Sabbo Begum (28), reportedly residents of the Coal Depot area.
According to police sources, authorities had received a tip-off about a couple transporting narcotics from Kishanganj to Siliguri on a scooty. Acting on the information, the police team set up a roadblock near Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat and intercepted the suspected vehicle as it approached the city.
Upon conducting a search, officers recovered 300 grams of brown sugar from the scooty. The couple was immediately taken into custody following the seizure.
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at NJP Police Station. They were later produced before the Jalpaiguri court.
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to trace other individuals connected to the trafficking network, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
