Cooch Behar man rescued from Uttarakhand tunnel receives warm welcome at Bagdogra Airport

Siliguri, 01st December: Manik Talukdar, a resident of Tufanganj in Cooch Behar was rescued after being trapped in the Silkyara tunnel for 17 days following the recent tunnel collapse. On Friday, on his way home, Manik arrived at Bagdogra Airport from Delhi.

Reportedly, upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of North Bengal State Transport Corporation Partha Pratim Roy and Pradhan of Balrampur Gram Panchayat and others. While interacting with the media, Manik expressed his joy of arriving back home. He stated that the situation was critical as for the first 18 hours they did not receive oxygen. However, the morale of the workers was intact.

Further recalling the incident, Manik stated that the status of the trapped workers was known to the rescuers outside the tunnel after removing the water with pumps. Subsequently, arrangements for providing oxygen were made and they survived ten days eating puffed rice. Additionally, Manik Talukdar also made an appeal to the state government to make arrangements for jobs.
