CM Mamata Banerjee severs ties with younger brother amid political turmoil in Bengal

Siliguri, 13th March: In a dramatic turn of events, West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has announced the termination of alliance with her younger brother, Swapan Banerjee during a press conference held in Siliguri on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the political landscape of the state.

It is to be noted that the rift stemmed after Swapan Banerjee, alias Babun, was displeased regarding the re-nomination of Prasun Banerjee for the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency. As a result, Swapan Banerjee declared to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections.

During her visit to North Bengal, the CM faced inquiries regarding the familial discord. Emphasizing her commitment to the party, she highlighted her work alongside crores of people since her entry into politics.

Furthermore, Mamata Banerjee went on to dismiss Swapan Banerjee’s association with the family, adamantly asserting that people change with time. Following the Chief Minister’s statements, Swapan Banerjee issued a response, affirming his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee as long as she remains in West Bengal.
