Clash between TMC and BJP over Annapurna Bhandar scheme forms in Siliguri, political tension escalates ahead of polls

Siliguri, 19th April: Political tension escalated in Siliguri after a clash broke out between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP workers over the filling of forms for the Annapurna Bhandar scheme in the Paschim Hatiadanga area of the Dabgram-Fulbari Assembly constituency.

According to local sources, the clash began after allegations surfaced that forms for the Annapurna Bhandar scheme were being filled out at the residence of a local panchayat member. TMC workers and supporters reached the spot while the process was underway, leading to a heated exchange between the two groups that soon turned into a scuffle.

It was alleged that forms were being filled out with assurances that beneficiaries would receive ₹3,000 each. Personal details, including names, phone numbers, and Aadhaar information, were reportedly being collected, triggering suspicion and unrest.

BJP workers alleged that TMC supporters attacked the panchayat member’s residence and misbehaved with women present there. They also claimed that intimidation took place at gunpoint.

On the other hand, TMC leaders accused BJP workers of misleading the public to gain electoral advantage. They stated that their members had gone to inquire about the matter peacefully, but the situation escalated following a verbal altercation.

Following the incident, BJP workers staged a protest in front of the Ashighar Police Outpost. TMC supporters also gathered at the spot and raised slogans, further intensifying the tension.

Both parties have stated that they will lodge complaints with the Election Commission and the local police regarding the incident.
