Siliguri, 27th November: The CID has arrested the fifth accused in a ₹47 lakh investment fraud case involving a Siliguri resident.
The accused, identified as Kartik Dhuriya, was apprehended from Punjab and produced before the Siliguri court on transit remand. The court granted CID a 10-day remand for further investigation.
The case dates back to 25th April 2024, when Siliguri resident Rajesh Jaiswal filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Branch of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, stating he had been defrauded of ₹47 lakh in the name of investment.
Initial investigations led to the identification of the bank account where the money had been transferred. The account holder, Paramjit Singh, was arrested from Delhi but later granted bail by the court.
Dissatisfied with the progress, the complainant approached the High Court, which directed CID to take over the investigation. The CID subsequently arrested three suspects from Gujarat. Interrogation of these three led the team to the fifth accused, Kartik Dhuriya, who was revealed to be the mastermind managing the bank accounts and transferring the defrauded funds between accounts.
After producing the accused in Siliguri court, the CID team departed for Kolkata with him for further investigation. The case continues to be under active inquiry.
