Chaos over woman’s mysterious death within two years of marriage in Siliguri, police take husband into custody

Siliguri, 24th April: Sensation prevailed in the Champasari area of Ward No. 46 in Siliguri Municipal Corporation following the mysterious death of a woman, just two years after her marriage. The deceased has been identified as Savitri Shah. Her parents caused a commotion at her in-laws’ house upon hearing the news of her death.


Reports indicate that on Sunday evening, Savitri was found hanging from a noose by her in-laws. She was quickly rescued and taken to a private nursing home, but the doctors declared her dead on arrival. Her body was then sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

Savitri Shah, a resident of Alipurduar, had married Vijay Kumar from Champasari area in 2021. The couple has a one-year-old son. According to the deceased’s parents, Vijay and his family had been mentally and physically torturing Savitri for several months after the marriage. They received news yesterday that Savitri had committed suicide. However, her parents allege that her in-laws and husband had murdered her and were trying to pass it off as suicide.


The family has filed a written complaint against Vijay Kumar and his in-laws at Pradhan Nagar police station for their daughter’s killing. Vijay Kumar has been taken into police custody, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
