Cabinet Minister Firhad Hakim inaugurates Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Siliguri

Siliguri, 30th November: The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was inaugurated today in front of the Head Post Office in Siliguri’s Kachari Road. The 9-foot-tall statue was built at a cost of 6 lakh 42 thousand 175 rupees. Firhad Hakim, the Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Government of West Bengal inaugurated the statue.


Congress MLA Shankar Malakar, Ashok Bhattacharya (Chairman of BoA at SMC), District Trinamool President Ranjan Sarkar, and co-ordinators of different wards were present during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Hakim lauded the initiative and urged Ashok Bhattacharya to build another statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the city. He further said that the space required in this concern will be provided by SJDA or any other department.


Incidentally, there was a lot of speculation regarding the venue of statue installation. Later, under the initiative of Minister Firhad Hakim, the Head Post Office area on Kachari Road was finalized.
