Siliguri, 21st July: On Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a state-wide protest denouncing the violence and panic that marred the recently concluded Panchayat election. Joining in solidarity, the Siliguri Organizational District of the BJP staged a protest at the Matigara Block Development Office (BDO). Taking charge of the demonstration was Anandamoy Barman, the BJP’s Siliguri Organizational District President and Matigara-Naxalbari MLA.
To maintain order and control the situation, authorities imposed Section 144 within the BDO Office premises from 6 am to 6 pm, bolstered by a significant police presence. Nevertheless, tensions escalated when protestors attempted to breach the police barricades and clashed with the police. After some time, a delegation representing the protestors submitted a memorandum to the BDO, expressing their demands.
Anandamoy Barman, the BJP’s Siliguri Organizational District President, condemned the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) for allegedly using administrative influence to secure victory in the Panchayat election. He called for stringent action against those implicated in malpractices during the polls.
