BJP leaders visit gang-rape victim’s family in Siliguri, demand swift action and accountability

Siliguri, 31st August: On Thursday, the district President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arun Mondal, along with leaders from the Mahila Morcha, visited the residence of a victim who had been gang-raped after being lured away from her home with the promise of a job in a tea estate. They met with the victim’s family and engaged in discussions. It is to be noted that one of the accused individuals has already been apprehended.

Addressing the media, President Arun Mondal expressed concern about the increasing incidents of harassment and assault against women in various areas. He criticized the apparent lack of action by the police administration in response to these issues. Notably, there had been three similar incidents reported within the past seven days. Mondal also highlighted the fact that the Chief Minister of the region is a woman, yet she had not addressed the matter of harassment and assault faced by women across the state.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the victim’s family has been subjected to threats through various means. Despite these circumstances, the authorities have remained silent on the matter. Arun Mondal emphasized that unless the administration takes concrete steps to address the issue, there could be a significant public outcry in the days to come.
