BJP and TMC face off over Annapurna Bhandar scheme forms in Siliguri, political tensions rise ahead of polls

Siliguri, 18th April: Just days ahead of the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the political atmosphere in Ward No. 46 of Siliguri has intensified, with the BJP and Trinamool Congress confronting each other over the issue of Annapurna Bhandar scheme forms. The situation has led to increased tension in the area.


According to information, at Booth No. 14 under Ward No. 46 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, TMC alleged that BJP workers were distributing Annapurna Bhandar scheme forms to women to influence voters ahead of polling. TMC leaders claimed that such actions violate the Model Code of Conduct and are aimed at misleading voters.

The Trinamool Congress expressed strong displeasure over the matter. Meanwhile, BJP leaders rejected the allegations, stating that no forms were being distributed and that only informational leaflets related to the scheme were being circulated among the public.


The issue has escalated political tension in the locality. Upon receiving information, Pradhan Nagar police reached the spot, assessed the situation, and informed the Election Commission’s monitoring cell. Subsequently, a team from the Election Commission visited the area and asked both BJP and TMC to submit written complaints regarding the matter.
