Dhupguri, 24th May: Panic gripped the Baserdanga area under Magurmari I Gram Panchayat in Dhupguri subdivision after two bison strayed into the locality and went on a rampage early Sunday morning. Two people were injured in the incident, while several domestic animals were killed.
According to local sources, the bison entered the area at dawn and began attacking at multiple locations, creating fear among residents. In the chaos, two cows and a goat were killed. Two individuals also sustained injuries, with one of them reported to be in critical condition.
After receiving information about the incident, officials from the Forest Department rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Following strenuous efforts, forest personnel managed to tranquilize and capture one of the bison. A search operation is currently underway to locate the second animal.
The incident has sparked widespread panic across the region, with residents remaining on edge amid fears of further attacks.
