Siliguri, 18th June: The Siliguri Junction Government Railway Police (GRP) team arrested two members of the alleged mobile snatching gang of Birpara. The accused have been identified as Sonu Munda and Mukesh Patro, both residents of Birpara.
According to the information, Sonu fled from the scene after snatching the phones of passengers at the station and hand over the phone to Mukesh, who works in mobile repairing by profession.
Earlier, the team of Siliguri Junction GRP along with Railway Protection Force (RPF), arrested 6 members of Haryana gang who were snatching from passengers. According to GRP sources, Sonu and Mukesh are also connected with the snatching gang of Haryana as they helped the Haryana gang in extorting passengers. During interrogation of the Haryana gang, it has been revealed that two people of Birpara used to play an active role in carrying out the incidents of snatching.
Meanwhile, acting on inputs, police initiated further investigation and arrested Sonu on the 7th of June. Upon subsequent questioning, the name of Mukesh came to the fore. Following this, GRP team also arrested Mukesh from Birpara on the 9th of June. In this regard, 56 stolen mobile phones have also been recovered from Mukesh’s house. Today, both accused have been produced before the Siliguri Court, after the completion of 7 days remand period.
