Bike theft accused arrested in Siliguri; police seek 7-day custody to recover stolen motorcycle

Siliguri, 16th June: Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a motorcycle theft case under the Matigara Police Station area following a complaint lodged by a Bagdogra resident.

According to the complaint, on 19th May 2026, the victim met a person identifying himself as “ROX” at Medical More in Kawakhali to sell his motorcycle. The accused allegedly took the bike for a trial ride and fled without returning it.

During the investigation, Matigara Police, with assistance from Jalpaiguri Police, arrested Atanu Guha (20), a resident of Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district.

Police said that during interrogation, the accused admitted to involvement in several similar offences in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts.

The accused was produced before a Siliguri court. Police sought seven days of custody to facilitate the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and continue the investigation.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
