Bengal Safari Park: Animals come out to play while humans stay locked away amid a pandemic

Siliguri, 06th August: Siliguri’s Bengal Safari Park has been closed for over 5 months in view of the coronavirus outbreak. While the pandemic upended the “normal” life of the humans, such isn’t the case when it comes to the animals.

On Thursday, the Bengal Safari Park’s royal Bengal tiger, black bears, leopards, and elephants were spotted enjoying hot weather in Siliguri on their own. With no noisy spectators staring and taunting at them and having the park all to themselves, the animals seemed so carefree and happy. Some were spotted chilling on a large block of ice, while the others swinging in a swing.

While the park authorities are overwhelmed to witness such a sight, they also have another reason to be over the moon. The park’s very own Royal Bengal Tiger Shila is pregnant and is expecting a cub.

Meanwhile, some videos have been posted on social media on behalf of the park authorities, which showed the Himalayan Black Bear cooling itself with an ice block. Two tiger cubs Rika and Kika were spotted swimming and playing in the waters.

While the safari park has been closed for the last few months amid the pandemic, the wildlife species are enjoying solitude in the previously busy Bengal Safari Park. All the staff and Park’s forest officials are very happy to see a revival in wildlife since the pandemic began. Hence, videos were shot to show these moments to the citizens.
