Belakoba Range personnel arrest two in wood smuggling case in Rajganj

Rajganj, 19th November: Two men were arrested for smuggling Burmese teak wood worth lakhs of rupees by the personnel of Belakoba Range. The forest workers, under the leadership of Ranger Sanjay Dutta, launched a campaign in the Fatapukur area of ​​Rajganj along Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway in the early hours of Saturday after receiving a tip-off.


The team initially apprehended a truck and on searching it, they found wood worth around Rs 30 lakh hidden under sacks of coal. The truck driver and his assistant were arrested after they failed to produce any valid papers for the consignment. The accused have been identified as Taslim Mohammad and Zahid Mohammad. Both are said to be residents of Haryana. According to the Forest Department, the said wood was being taken from Assam to Kolkata. The accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court, on Sunday.
