Rajganj, 08th February: Forest workers of Belakoba Range arrested three persons with two elephant tusks. The arrested accused have been identified as Joynal Rahman, Arsad Mia, and Mozamil Haque.
Reportedly, the Belakoba Range Office received a tip-off that the tusks were being transported out of Siliguri for smuggling. An operation was launched under the leadership of Range Officer Sanjay Dutta and a vehicle was detained in the area adjacent to Odlabari Railgate. Upon searching, elephant tusks of around 2 kgs were recovered. 3 people were arrested in the incident.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that the tusks were being transported from Alipurduar to Siliguri for smuggling. According to Range Office sources, they will be sent to Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday.
