Kharibari, 04th June: A Bangladeshi national was arrested at the Panitanki Indo-Nepal border area in Kharibari for allegedly attempting to enter India using an expired visa.
According to reports, SSB personnel on patrol detained the individual on suspicion and verified his documents. During the verification process, officials found that his visa had expired long ago. He was subsequently handed over to Kharibari Police Station, where he was arrested based on an SSB complaint.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Muktar Hossain, a resident of Nawabganj in Dhaka district, Bangladesh.
Police sources said Hossain had legally entered India in 2023 with a valid visa. However, after his visa expired while he was staying in Kolkata, he allegedly travelled to Nepal through the help of a tout network.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly told investigators that he attempted to re-enter India through the border after learning about recent measures to identify, monitor, and deport illegal infiltrators in the state.
The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Kharibari Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
