Siliguri, 23rd February: Bagdogra Airport will be closed from April 11 to April 25 for runaway work. Earlier, a notification was issued in this concern, following which, people from various quarters have been expressing their discontent.

The tourism industry is raising questions regarding why one of the most important airports in the state is being closed during the peak tourist season in April. Hence, the Himalayan Hospitality and Tourism Development Network sent a letter to the Centre asking to reconsider the decision to close the airport.

Samrat Sanyal, secretary of the organization, said “ Apart from North Bengal, people in Sikkim and Bihar also depend on Bagdogra airport to a great extent. Our question is why April? Earlier too, work could have been done by keeping the airport closed. Hence, a letter has been sent to the Center to reconsider the matter.
