Attempted smuggling foiled, one arrested with 175 kg cannabis in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th December: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) launched an operation near Bengal Safari under the jurisdiction of Bhakti Nagar police station and recovered 175 kg of cannabis. Following this, the driver of the pickup van transporting the banned items was arrested. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajijul Haque (46), a resident of Cooch Behar.


As per details gathered, the smugglers planned to transport the cannabis to Bihar via Siliguri from Nishiganj in Cooch Behar. However, the STF team launched an operation, halted the pickup van, and initiated a search.

During the search, the STF team recovered 175 kg of cannabis from a secret chamber inside the van. The market value of the seized items is estimated to be about 15 lakh rupees. Following this, the driver was arrested and was later handed over to the cops of Bhakti Nagar police station. Subsequently, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court for legal proceedings.
