22nd September: ASHA workers staged a sit-in protest in front of the health department of Siliguri Municipal Corporation demanding arrears of salary, on Thursday. The demonstrators alleged that in the year 2020, all the ASHA workers working in the city areas have not received their due salaries and further claimed to be underpaid. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot in view of the workers’ protest and brought the situation under control.
Saraswathi Mukherjee, the joint convener of the Asha Karmi Union of the city area, said that they have been working all time during the Corona-dengue spread risking their life, but despite taking such risks they have not been given the dues of their salary to which they are entitled. She said that if the outstanding salary is not received, they will launch a bigger movement and agitate against the injustice done to them.
