Siliguri, 04th June: Allegations of rice theft from an Anganwadi centre in Fakdaibari under Dabgram II Anchal triggered tension in the area, with a woman worker being detained by police following local intervention.
According to reports, on Thursday afternoon, a woman worker was allegedly seen taking rice using a toto vehicle from the Anganwadi centre, raising suspicion among local residents. Locals allegedly caught her and recovered the rice from her possession, leading to unrest in the area.
Following the incident, residents informed the Ashighar Outpost. Police reached the spot, brought the situation under control, and took the accused woman into custody for questioning.
Locals also claimed that the worker had been facing allegations of irregularities and theft of food items meant for children for a long time, although the accused has denied all allegations.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are verifying the claims.
