Alipuduar’s van driver donates land for construction of Thalassemia Medical Center

Alipurduar, 25th February: Shyamprasad Das, a resident of Kamakhyaguri in Alipurduar district, is a van driver by profession and dreams to create a thalassemia-free society.


In this context, Shyamprasad Das has been campaigning regarding thalassemia in various places for a long time. To fulfill his goal, Das has taken the initiative to establish a Medical Center for Thalassemia. On his birthday, today, Das laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Medical Center by donating 2 decimals of land. He stated that the people of his area needed a hub for the treatment of Thalassemia. Therefore, he wanted to construct a Thalassemia Medical Center in the area. Das further stated that a doctor will be appointed in the Medical Center, where, the people, suffering from thalassemia, will be examined free of cost.

Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families in which the body makes an abnormal form or inadequate amount of hemoglobin. The disorder results in large numbers of red blood cells being destroyed, which leads to anemia.
