After 8 years, four convicts in a drug trafficking case in Siliguri sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment, fined Rs 1.5 lakh

Siliguri, 11th April: The Siliguri Court has today sentenced four convicts in a drug trafficking case to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment, after 8 years of trial. In addition to the imprisonment, a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh has been imposed on the convicts. If the fine is not paid, the accused have been sentenced to undergo labour imprisonment for an additional 2 years.


According to the information, in 2016, the DD team arrested four people along with 7 kg of hashish after conducting an operation near Methibari Check Post. The arrested have been identified as Shanta Rai, Jeevan Gautam, Ram Kumar Khati and Basant Rai Senwag. After 8 years of trial, the Siliguri NDPS Court gave its verdict today.

According to Dilip Rai and Nilay Rai, the government lawyers of NDPS Court, in the year 2016, DD Inspector Abhijeet Saha along with his team conducted an operation near Methibari Check Post acting on a tip-off and arrested the four with the drugs. The court sentenced the accused today on the basis of 8 witnesses and pieces of evidence.
